Winter travel just became easier: North Lake Tahoe adds new transportation programs & partnerships

The region’s expanded shuttle services through Tahoe Truckee Area Regional Transit (TART) compliment existing regional shuttles, nonstop flights and trains, creating efficient and environmentally friendly travel options.

NORTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. / Nev. (Dec. 21, 2018)— North Lake Tahoe launches new transportation initiatives to increase ease of access and safety to and throughout the region’s 12 downhill ski resorts and alpine communities. With added services and programs through Tahoe Truckee Area Regional Transit (TART), and a collaboration with major ski resorts and lodging partners, North Lake Tahoe provides hassle-free transportation while furthering its mission to create an energy-efficient, environmentally conscious destination.

“Our goal as an internationally recognized ski/ride destination is to continually rethink the ways we can connect our guests with the various on-mountain and lake-side amenities,” said Cindy Gustafson, President/CEO of the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association. “Thanks to our partnerships with resorts and regional transit, we can create a seamless experience for our guests, especially during peak travel seasons.”

Placer County, Northstar California and Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows have joined the Tahoe Truckee Area Regional Transit (TART) Park & Ride Program along Highway 267 and 89. This allows guests to park at Truckee parking locations and ride TART to the resorts. The program provides free bus services every 30 minutes, in addition to extended daytime and nighttime services between Incline Village, Kings Beach, Tahoe Vista, Carnelian Bay and Tahoe City.

“We are proud to be a part of the greater message, that North Lake Tahoe is making significant efforts to become an easily accessible ski destination,” said Tony Karwowski, Director of the Base Area and Village at Northstar California. “The Park & Ride program, along with our in-mountain shuttle services and Dial-A-Ride App make it easy for guests to navigate from Truckee, Kings Beach,or surrounding lodges to the mountain.”

TART’s peak 20-minute service will operate from the Tahoe City Transit Center, offering 130 parking spaces to Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, and from Crystal Bay to Northstar California. Time schedules and routes can be found at TahoeTruckeeTransit.com.

“This program, along with expanded carpool parking and the new Mountaineer mobile app, provides a superior experience for our guests while taking cars off the road and reducing our regional carbon footprint,” said Liesl Hepburn, Public Relations Director at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows.

Northstar California and Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows both offer complimentary mountain shuttles, electric car charging stations and transportation apps for smartphones. The Squaw Alpine Transit Company (SATCo) offers year-round trips within the valley. Guests can download the Mountaineer mobile app to set pickup and dropoff locations. Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows also offers premium parking to guests who carpool to the resort— a partnership with Protect Our Winters (POW).

“The Mountaineer program is all about providing a world-class guest experience, accessed right through our smartphones that we use every day. The technology is a game changer in many ways, and it makes for a very user-friendly system.” said Stephen Murray, CEO of Mountaineer’s service provider, Downtowner. “Our algorithms are effectively faster and smarter than human dispatchers, which allows us to handle an astounding amount of ride volume. We’re so proud to be teamed up with SATCo to make this happen.”

Diamond Peak’s Ski Shuttle offers complimentary rides from the resort to various lodges in Incline Village; as well as the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe, which offers shuttle service throughout Incline for hotel guests.

Additional transportation services include regional shuttles, nonstop flights and trains. The North Lake Tahoe Express shuttle offers daily services on three routes, with connections in Incline Village, Crystal Bay, Kings Beach, Tahoe Vista, Carnelian Bay and Tahoe City. Shuttles between Reno and North Lake Tahoe run 3-6 times a day, and guests can book online or by phone.

Nonstop flight destinations from the Bay Area are available from San Jose, San Francisco and Oakland. Nonstop flights from southern California include Los Angeles, San Diego, Long Beach and the newly launched Carlsbad market.

For premium flight options, Surf Air offers direct flights to the Truckee Tahoe Airport on a custom-designed executive aircraft; and Mountain Lion offers private charter services to the Truckee Tahoe Airport.

The AMTRAK California Zephyr train runs daily between Reno, Sacramento and Emeryville/San Francisco.
