NORTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev., July 1, 2024 – Just in time for the busy Fourth of July holiday weekend, North Lake Tahoe beaches Kings Beach, Moon Dunes and Lake Forest received a state-of-the-art cleaning, courtesy of BEBOT – the all-electric, sand sifting robot. This innovative technology is helping to remove debris from beach sand up to a depth of four inches, playing an integral role in combating harmful microplastics buried beneath the surface.

BEBOT, by ECO-CLEAN Solutions, is an eco-friendly solution to the challenge of keeping beaches clean. The robot uses advanced filtration systems to remove trash and debris from the sand, leaving a spotless beach for everyone to enjoy. It provides full beach cleanings on both public and private beaches with upcoming public demonstrations at Tahoe Vista Recreation Area and Commons Beach later this summer.

“By deploying BEBOT for these pre-Fourth of July cleanings, we’re ensuring that our beaches look their best for the busy holiday weekend and we are encouraging visitors to leave them better than they found them,” said Tony Karwowski, CEO of the North Tahoe Community Alliance (NTCA). “BEBOT’s ability to remove even the smallest pieces of debris will create a long-term positive impact on our environment.”

Having BEBOT clean beaches on the North Shore was made possible by the TOT-TBID Dollars at Work Program, an initiative that reinvests tourism revenue into projects that enhance economic health, community vitality, and environmental sustainability, benefiting residents, businesses and visitors alike.

BEBOT is just a piece of the puzzle in the overall efforts to promote sustainable tourism and stewardship in Lake Tahoe. Lake Tahoe ambassadors are also stationed on North Lake Tahoe beaches this summer, reminding visitors to pick up their trash, drink Tahoe tap water instead of purchasing single-use plastic water bottles and clean up after their pets. These ambassadors are there to offer education and equipment to help people clean, drain and dry their inflatable paddleboards to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species.

North Lake Tahoe. is aligned with and taking action to implement the Lake Tahoe Destination Stewardship Plan in collaboration with over 20 regional organizations. The award-winning plan, developed with the participation of over 3,000 residents, visitors, and businesses, establishes a shared vision for the region’s outdoor recreation and tourism and encourages everyone to help take care of Tahoe’s cherished communities and environment.
