North Tahoe Braces for Thanksgiving Storm

NOAA predicts snow totals up to two feet

 

(North Lake Tahoe, Calif./Nev.) November 24, 2015 – The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has issued a winter storm warning for the North Lake Tahoe area and is predicting snowfall approaching two feet just in time for holiday weekend skiers and snowboarders.

High winds have already begun bringing in precipitation of a two-day winter storm resulting in snow falling at rates of one to two inches per hour at times. This precipitation falls after two previous storm fronts brought in approximately 116% more precipitation by November 11, 2015 than average years.

These early snowfalls allowed for many North Lake Tahoe ski resorts to open ahead of schedule. Six North Lake Tahoe ski resorts will be open for skiing and riding during the Thanksgiving weekend, with all 12 North Lake Tahoe ski resorts predicted to open by December 11.
