What’s New in North Lake Tahoe Winter 2023/2024

Recreation Updates, Transportation Updates, Upcoming Events and More

NORTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev., Dec. 12, 2023 – North Lake Tahoe is a premier winter destination, known for its world-class skiing and snowboarding, snowshoeing expeditions, sledding hills and more. From parking updates at its most popular ski resorts, disco tubing experiences, full moon and sunset snowshoe tours, sustainability updates and more, here is what’s new in North Lake Tahoe this winter.

 

Accessibility Updates:

  • Tahoe Fund launched a $25,000 matching campaign to support summer recreation programs for individuals with disabilities and their families through Achieve Tahoe. Tahoe Fund will double all donations given to the program before Dec. 31 in order to reach a goal of $50,000. These donations will be used for various initiatives, such as scholarships, supplies and equipment, staff and volunteer training and more.

 

Recreation Updates:

  • Granlibakken Tahoe will have Night Sledding from mid-December to mid-January. Night sledding starts at 5 p.m. and features music and fun lighting. Tickets are $35 per person and includes the sled rental. Guests are required to bring their own gloves, waterproof pants, jacket and snow boots.
  • Northstar California will operate Nordic Twilight Tours every Saturday from Dec. 16 through March 9. The snowshoe tours begin at the Cross Country, Telemark and Snowshoe Center at 5 p.m. and will bring participants through the pine tree-lined forest that will eventually conclude at The Village at Northstar. During the tour, participants will have the opportunity to relax around a fire pit to enjoy s’mores and hot chocolate. Tickets are $57 to $87 per person.
  • Palisades Tahoe will offer Disco Tubing on select dates from Dec. 16 through Mar. 9. Disco tubing features colorful LED lights and lasers, making for a unique sledding experience. Sessions are 55-minutes long and begin at the top of the hour. Tickets are $74 per person.
  • Guided Snowshoe Tours with a Chalet Dinner at Alpine will run on select dates from Dec. 22 through March 16. Along with a guided snowshoe tour, guests will also enjoy a four course Bavarian-inspired meal with a complimentary glass of champagne upon arrival to the Chalet. This tour is for participants over 21-years-old only. Tickets are $140 plus tax and gratuity.
  • Tahoe Adventure Company will have Full Moon Snowshoe Tours from Dec. 26 through Apr. 23. Throughout the moonlit tour, guides will discuss natural history and astronomy as well as share fascinating facts about the moon. There is a four-person minimum to run the tour and tickets are $90 per person.
  • From Dec. 1 through Apr. 26, Tahoe Adventure Company will offer Sunset Snowshoe Tours. Group Sunset Snowshoe Tours will take place every Friday but can be booked any day of the week for a group of four or more. Tickets are $90 per person.

Ski Resort Updates:

  • To help with traffic flow in North Lake Tahoe, Palisades Tahoe will require parking reservations on weekends and peak periods for all parking lots. Free parking reservations will be available every Tuesday for the upcoming weekend for the remainder of the season. For guests who need to reserve a parking spot on a weekend or peak period further in advance, paid parking is available for $30 per day.
  • Northstar California will begin requiring parking reservations on Dec. 16. The Village View Lots will require reservations on weekends and peak periods between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. Reservations will be free for vehicles with more than four riders and $20 for vehicles with three or less riders. Parking is free at the Valley View lots during weekdays and non-peak periods. The Castle Peak Lots will remain free every day of the week and will not require reservations, even on weekends and peak periods.

Sustainability Updates:

  • The annual ‘Plates for Powder’ program is back for the 2023-24 ski season. This program offers free ski and ride opportunities to those who purchase a Lake Tahoe license plate. All proceeds from the plate sales and renewals support environmental improvement projects in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Over 95 percent of funds generated by plate sales and renewals help fund new hiking and biking trails, watershed restoration projects and protect Lake Tahoe’s famed beaches and blue waters.   • Take Care Tahoe released a Drink Tahoe Tap Map, which is an interactive map that showcases where people can fill reusable water bottles. Local businesses and recreation areas who have joined this initiative are making their refill stations available to the public. North Lake Tahoe businesses taking part in this initiative include Homewood Mountain Resort, The Inn at Boatworks, the U.C. Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center, Susie Scoops Ice Cream, Drink Coffee, Do Stuff and many more throughout the North Shore.

Transportation Updates:

  • TART Connect’s winter hours will be in effect from Dec. 14 to Ap. 7. TART Connect is North Lake Tahoe’s free curb-to-curb, on-demand shuttle service that follows a shared ride model and promotes sustainable transportation within the destination.   • Mountaineer, the free on-demand winter transit system within Olympic Valley and Alpine Meadows, began its fifth season of operations on Dec. 8 and will run until Apr. 6, 2024. To find and request a ride, download the Mountaineer

Upcoming Events:

  • The Alpenglow Winter Speaker Series kicked off on Nov. 30 and will continue through March 7. The Alpenglow Winter Speaker Series welcomes five world-famous athletes to Palisades Tahoe for an intimate evening of inspirational tales of mountain adventure. Each athlete is paired with a local non-profit to help raise money through giveaway and bar proceeds. The Alpenglow Winter Speaker Series events are free to attend and no RSVP is required.
  • The second annual Road to WonderGrass Tahoe commenced on Dec. 9 and will feature various shows until Mar. 23. This year, Road to WonderGrass will showcase a diverse lineup of six artist shows, including Dead Winter Carpenters with AJ Lee and Blue Summit, Matt Rainey and the Dippin’ Sauce, Blü Egyptian Band, Broken Compass Bluegrass, Matt Michienzie Band with another band still to be announced. Attendees will also have the chance to participate in a drawing for an exclusive package that includes two general admission tickets to WinterWonderGrass, four late-night tickets and WinterWonderGrass swag.
  • Palisades Tahoe will kick off the 2023/2024 winter season with Tahoe Live. Event goers will enjoy an electrifying performance, featuring Rezz and DJ Diesel (a.k.a. Shaquille O’Neal). The event will take place Dec. 15 and 16 at The Village at Palisades Tahoe. Tickets range from $34.99 for one-day general admission to $179.99 for two-day VIP passes.
  • Northstar Winter Wonders, a magical winter wonderland in Northstar Village with free admission, will take place at Northstar’s Mid Mountain Lodge from Dec. 15 through Dec. 31. Visitors can explore timeless moments around the resort with family-friendly experiences like ice skating, shopping and more.
  • The Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe will host a Festive Program from Dec. 22 through Jan. 1. Visitors will find a variety of activities, such as edible Christmas crafts, story time with Mrs. Claus, Christmas bingo, ornament making and more. For the full lineup of events, click here.
  • Bridget Giroux Design has a Holiday Sip and Shop Pop-Up running through Dec. 23 as part of the Northern Lights Festival. The pop-up features a curated assortment of Tahoe and US-made gifts, including chocolates, jewelry, wreaths and more. The pop-up is open Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Granlibakken Tahoe will have a Christmas Eve Torchlight Parade on Dec. 24. This annual parade will begin at 5 p.m. and feature drinks, music and a meet and greet with Santa. This family-friendly event is free to attend.
  • Santa and Penguin Pete will be at Diamond Peak on Dec. 24 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Guests can celebrate the holidays and take a selfie with Santa and Penguin Pete while they hand out stickers and treats.
  • Palisades Tahoe will host a Christmas Eve Dinner on Dec. 24 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Olympic Valley Events Center. Guests will enjoy a delicious grand buffet, complete with carving stations, holiday side dishes, desserts and a complimentary glass of champagne upon arrival. Tickets are $90, plus tax and gratuity, for adults and $29, plus tax and gratuity, for kids ages 5 to 12. Children under 4-years-old are free. Reservations must be made by 5 p.m. on Dec. 21.
  • Granlibakken Tahoe will have a Full Course Christmas Dinner Buffet on Dec. 25 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $88 per adult with a 50 percent discount for kids ages 6 to 12 years old. Children five and under dine free.
  • On Dec. 30, the Tahoe Wine Collective will host a Comedy Night with six talented comedians, including Zeke Thomas, Kelley Shanley, David Gamble Jr., Stevn Dente, Andrea B and Sara Rooker. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $25 per person.
  • On Dec. 31, Wild Soul Events and Tahoe Wine Collective will host a New Year’s Eve event at Boatworks Mall from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. This event will feature a special guest DJ with live music from Pipedown. Tickets are $65 per person and include access to the DJ, live music, photobooth, a commemorative glass and champagne toast.
  • On Dec. 31, Granlibakken Tahoe will host a New Year’s Eve Sledding Party from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and a Dinner and Dance Party from 8:30 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. The sledding party is $35 per person and includes a sled rental. The dinner and dance party is $78 per adult with a 50 percent discount for kids ages 6 to 12 years old. Children five and under are free.
  • On Jan. 26, Diamond Peak will host its annual Ullr Fest Parade and Community Party to raise funds for the Diamond Peak Ski Team (DPSEF). From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., join Diamond Peak for an evening of fun with a torchlight parade, bonfire, music, raffles, food and more.
  • The Far West U12 GS Race will commence at Rose Ski Tahoe from Jan. 27 to Jan. 28. This event promotes participation and enthusiasm in alpine competition across various skill levels, including entry level, club level and elite level to retain competitors and support skiing as a lifelong sport.
  • The Stifel Palisades Tahoe Men’s Audi FIS Ski World Cup will take place Feb. 23 through Feb. 25 at Palisades Tahoe. This event brings together the world’s best ski racers for men’s slalom and giant slalom events on the challenging Dog Leg and Red Dog Face slopes. Tickets range from $100 for grandstand access to $600 for VIP access.
  • The North Lake Tahoe SNOWFEST, one of the largest winter mountain festivals on the west coast, will return from Feb. 29 through Mar. 10. Activities will include live music, fireworks, a pancake breakfast, parade, polar bear swim, black out bingo, bar Olympics and more.
  • The Great Ski Race will take place at on Mar. 3. This race is a 16.2-mile loop around Mt. Watson and serves as the main fundraising event for the Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue Team. Race proceeds are used to purchase team equipment, as well as support winter survival and avalanche education programs.
  • WinterWonderGrass will take place Apr. 5 through Apr. 7 at Palisades Tahoe. WinterWonderGrass boasts four stages, a kids’ zone, food trucks, a VIP area and more. This year, festival-goers can expect live performances by artists and bands such as Sierra Ferrell, The Devil Makes Three, Paul Cathen, The Infamous Stringdusters and many more.
